Process & Aging
Arette Artesanal Añejo Tequila is produced by the Orendain family at El Llano Distillery in the historic town of Tequila, Jalisco.
Production begins with 100% Blue Weber agave harvested at maturity. The agave is cooked to convert its natural carbohydrates into fermentable sugars while developing the rich cooked-agave character at the foundation of the tequila.
Following cooking, the agave is crushed before undergoing fermentation and distillation.
The tequila is then transferred into oak for maturation. This aging period transforms the fresh distillate by introducing additional layers of vanilla, caramel, spice, fruit, and wood while allowing the underlying cooked-agave character to remain present.
Compared with the Artesanal Blanco and Reposado expressions, the Añejo receives greater barrel influence, producing a deeper color, richer texture, and more mature flavor profile.
The finished tequila is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof).
Appearance
Rich golden amber with warm copper highlights, reflecting its extended maturation in oak.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich aromas of cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, ripe fruit, and oak, accompanied by subtle pepper and warming spice.
Palate: Rounded and layered with roasted agave, vanilla, caramel, fruit, pepper, and toasted wood, balancing natural agave sweetness with mature barrel character.
Finish: Long and warming with lingering agave, vanilla, spice, caramel, and oak.
What Makes It Special
Arette Artesanal Añejo represents the more mature side of Arette's traditionally focused Artesanal collection.
Produced at El Llano Distillery (NOM 1109), the expression maintains the collection's emphasis on Blue Weber agave while introducing the additional complexity that comes from extended oak maturation.
The important distinction is balance.
Rather than allowing barrel flavors to completely dominate the spirit, Arette Artesanal Añejo retains a recognizable cooked-agave foundation beneath its vanilla, caramel, fruit, spice, and oak characteristics.
This creates a mature tequila that remains connected to the agave from which it was produced.
Compared with Arette Artesanal Blanco, the Añejo offers considerably more barrel influence. Compared with the Reposado, its longer maturation develops a richer and more oak-driven profile.
At 80 proof, the finished tequila maintains an approachable strength particularly well suited for slow sipping.
How to Enjoy
Arette Artesanal Añejo Tequila is particularly well suited for enjoying neat.
Pour a small serving into a tequila or stemmed tasting glass and allow it to rest briefly. This gives its cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, fruit, spice, and oak aromas time to develop.
It can also be enjoyed over a large ice cube, which gradually softens the tequila while highlighting different aspects of its mature barrel character.
For cocktails, Arette Artesanal Añejo works particularly well in spirit-forward preparations such as a Tequila Old Fashioned, where its agave and oak characteristics can remain prominent.
Its richer profile can also complement dark chocolate, roasted nuts, aged cheeses, and grilled meats.

Brand Story
Arette Tequila is produced by the Orendain family, whose history is deeply connected to tequila production in Jalisco, Mexico.
The brand is produced at the historic El Llano Distillery (NOM 1109) in the town of Tequila. Arette takes its name from Arete, the horse ridden by Mexican equestrian Humberto Mariles during his historic gold-medal performance at the 1948 London Olympic Games.
Today, Arette produces a range of tequilas that explore Blue Weber agave through different strengths and maturation styles. Its Artesanal collection places particular emphasis on traditional tequila character and the relationship between agave, production, and oak.
Arette Artesanal Añejo brings extended barrel maturation into that philosophy. Bottled at 80 proof, it combines cooked Blue Weber agave with vanilla, caramel, fruit, pepper, spice, and oak for a rich yet traditionally styled añejo tequila.
